Shining a Light on Memory Care
Indigo Hall's memory care program offers a personalized, tailored approach to helping residents with Alzheimer's or other dementia continue to live an engaged, active and fulfilling life.
Technology plays a large role in life at Indigo Hall, and this is especially true in our memory care neighborhood. Our team of dedicated caregivers utilize technology on a daily basis to ensure they are providing the highest standard of care for our residents, including specialized lighting designed to aid those with dementia.
Circadian lighting, featured throughout our memory care neighborhood, is a lighting system that mimics natural day and night cycles. This lighting system can dramatically improve both the mood and the health of seniors, as well as staff, who spend most of their days indoors. Circadian lighting has been shown to improve sleep cycles, reduce anxiety and agitated behavior, and increase engagement in day-time activities. In clinical settings, adding circadian lighting can even allow for significant reduction in psychotropic and sleep medications for memory care patients.
Our memory care residents awake to a warm glow that mimics sunrise, allowing them to wake more naturally and comfortably. As the morning goes on, that light becomes brighter and whiter like the sun outside, which stimulates alertness and encourages participation in community activities. In the late afternoon, lights shift to even hues, providing a peaceful atmosphere that prepares residents for bed and can help alleviate symptoms of Sundowner's Syndrome, which is common in those with dementia.
Every light in the system is individually programmable to allow each room to wake at a different time, giving our residents choice in their daily routines. Each one is controlled through a cloud-based interface that operates on the cellular data network, avoiding any safety concerns with connecting to a wireless network system. The Circadian lighting system at Indigo Hall was created by Lumenant, a lighting company that focuses on senior living.
Circadian lighting is one of many technological advances featured at our resort-style senior living community that helps ensure our residents are living their best life.
